Six charged in weekend DWI checkpoint at RVW Bridge

State Police DWI Sobriety Checkpoint results in several arrests

PRESS RELEASE

On October 26, 2019, state troopers from Troop K – Zone 1 in Columbia County conducted a DWI sobriety checkpoint at the Rip Van Winkle Bridge approach in the town of Greenport. As a result, the following arrests were made:

Jahmir Barnett-Williams, 20, of Hudson, NY, for DWI and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana

Brandon Borst, 18, Loch Sheldrake, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana

Ronaldo Couyoute, 20, Hudson, NY, for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana

Manuel Cruz, 22, Bronx, NY, for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana

Brandon Dick, 18, Red Hook, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana

Additionally, a 17-year-old from Catskill, NY was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana

All were processed and ordered to appear in Greenport Court at a later date.

State Police Captain David Kolb, Zone Commander in Columbia County, stated that the State Police continue to proactively work to remove intoxicated and impaired drivers from the roadways throughout the county and the state. “Several drivers thanked us for being out there”, Captain Kolb said. He also noted several ride sharing services traveled through the checkpoint, and that some of the riders told the troopers they hired the service because they felt they had too much to drink and safely drive.
