Police capture Hudson man, wanted for August stabbing and other cases

Wanted Felon Captured by HPD

Numerous Charges Including August ’19 Stabbing Case

Early this morning, Tuesday, September 24, 2019, the Hudson City Police Department Detectives and NY State Police Investigators arrested 26 year old, El-Shamar T. Thornton of Hudson, New York at a lower Columbia Street residence. He was charged with various felonies and misdemeanors that span 2 years of alleged criminal activity.

2017

Felony Drug Indictment Charge – On March 9, 2017, Thornton was indicted for Criminal Possession of a Control Substance 4th Degree – a class C Felony. This case was a New York State Police Investigation.

Violent Domestic Incident/ Domestic abuse – On November 11, 2017, the Hudson Police Department received a transferred Columbia County 911 call reporting that Thornton choked and then beat a woman in front of her 7 year old child in the area of the Hudson Terrace Apartments. Thornton also allegedly stole her keys and cell phone. An arrest warrant was issued by the City of Hudson Court on November 19, 2017 for the following charge;

- Criminal Obstruction of Breathing

- Endangering the Welfare of a Child

- Criminal Mischief 4th Degree

- Petit Larceny

- Harassment 2nd Degree

2018

On January 2, 2018, a Hudson City Court Bench Warrant was issued for Thornton for Resisting Arrest – a class A misdemeanor.

On January 11, 2018, A Columbia County Court Bench Warrant for failure to appear in Columbia County Court for the 2017 Felony Drug Indictment charge was issued by Judge Nichols.

2019

Stabbing assault with knife incident;

On Thursday, August 15, 2019, at approximately 9:14pm, the Hudson City Police Department received a call via Columbia County 911 reporting a stabbing that just occurred on Front Street in the area of the Schuyler Court Apartments.

HPD Patrol Units responded immediately to the area and located the injured victim, a 19 year old male, who was lying on the sidewalk bleeding, with a knife wound to his abdomen.

Greenport Rescue squad responded to the scene and transported the victim to the Columbia County airport where the victim was Medevac’d to Albany Medical Hospital for emergency treatment.

The City of Hudson Court signed a Felony Arrest Warrant for Thornton on August 29, 2019 for Assault 2nd Degree with a Weapon and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree (previous conviction) both Class D Felonies.

Thornton was arraigned today in both the Hudson City Court and Columbia County Court.

Hudson City Court Judge, Judge Connor issued bails at 5,000 cash / 7,500 bail and 25,000 cash / 50,000 bond returnable on September 30, 2019 at 8:30am.

Columbia County Judge, Judge Nichols issued no bail for the County bench Warrant returnable to court on October 2, 2019 at 10am.

The Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department assisted HPD with the above Investigations.
